It is unseasonably and unreasonably warm in Edinburgh today. Time to put away the tweed coat and skirt at least for the time being. Time for something a little cooler…

Utterly stunning. According to wiki he served as an intelligence officer during the Great War and won the Military Cross. I think Sherlock Holmes would have approved.

This is a bedroom at Penrhyn Castle in North Wales, the castle I moved to the Western Isles of Scotland for my third novel The Daughters of Blane. The novel was also inspired by this painting by Sargent:
which then inspired the cover of the original hardback:
If you like the problematic relationship between the Crawley sisters in Downton Abbey, then you might enjoy this novel. Although it is set in 1890’s rather than in Edwardian Scotland, the frocks are still excellent.
