This is a bedroom at Penrhyn Castle in North Wales, the castle I moved to the Western Isles of Scotland for my third novel The Daughters of Blane. The novel was also inspired by this painting by Sargent:

If you like the problematic relationship between the Crawley sisters in Downton Abbey, then you might enjoy this novel. Although it is set in 1890’s rather than in Edwardian Scotland, the frocks are still excellent.
